What is happening with this WG?

James Kempf <kempf42@...>

Hi,

I have heard nothing since I signed up for this WG after the architecture workshop last summer. What is happening?

I am working with a company that has a REST API for a microgrid controller that allows a building energy management system to obtain information about energy use and control solar and HVAC which the company would like to open source. It is not something that seems appropriate for OpenADR, since it has nothing to do with traditional utility controlled demand response, though of course the building energy management system could control the HVAC through the API in response to an OpenADR request from the utility to initiate demand response. LF Energy seems like the right place to do it, specifically this WG, but the list seems dead.

James, thanks for your note. This list is not dead but definitely dormant. Several active members in leadership had serious work commitments over the summer. But I agree that it is time to revive this effort.

is there more you can tell us about the company or would they like to present to the members of this group through a formal call?

I encourage others who are monitoring the list to chime in.

James - thanks for rousing the group!! I am grateful you reached out to ring the bell.

While the SIG has not been active, I have been having many meetings mostly in Japan and AUS. I've been working to get a number of balls in place. There is a lot happening and I am slammed. Please be patient!

@KenD - do you want to help us find a time? I would be happy to report. My preference is to have it be a late afternoon meeting so we can loop in the AUS and folks from Japan. I have been meeting with them anywhere from 3-5 pm. Weds the 14th might work.

Dashing, but glad you jumped in. I want to hear more!! It sounds very interesting.
Thanks,

Shuli

Ken, the company is ExtensibleEnergy. They make a building energy management controller that connects to a microgrid controller, see here for a short description of one deployment they've done. I exchanged email with them yesterday and they are currently busy with customers. I think once they get free, they'll be ready to get on a call and present.

But anyway, good to see that the list hasn't died.

I propose that we set up a time. We had been meeting Friday mornings, but I am not sure that is reasonable time for Asia.

I suggest a regular bi-weekly time - Thursday at 4p PT, 7p ET, 10a AEDT, 4:30a IST, 8a JST. We are trying to coordinate many people across many times zones. Can I get feedback about interest?

There is also overlap on Energy Access, I see that emerging as it's own SIG, eventually.

Again, thanks for ringing the bell! Happy to catch folks up on the various movements. I see a considerable amount of software coming in over the next 6 months.

Thanks,

Shuli
